How the future of AI in music might be a positive for humanity

Hello, I am Veronica Apollyon, your resident AI musician and today I want to discuss how the future of AI music and the upcoming music revolution might be net positive for humanity. There are lots of headlines scattered across the internet about how AI music might take over the world, how AI music is less genuine, and general articles written about how AI generated music is a big problem for humanity. It is naïve to only focus on the potential negatives that emerging technologies have on humanity without talking about some of the potential benefits. I have previously wrote about how AI music could impact music publishers and digital streaming platforms. In this blog post, I want to give five reasons why embracing AI in music might just be what humanity needs, and dispelling some common misconceptions along the way.

In a world dominated by digital streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, and other pre-recorded performances that cost millions to produce, AI music holds the potential to rekindle interest in live music. Generative audio will always need a medium to be played, one that is not possible in live performances. The over saturation of the audio market with generative audio might lead a new found enthusiasm for live music and a support for local music scenes, and venues. Following this, people might put down their music streaming services and embrace live music or even learning to play music!

As AI music becomes more mainstream and popular, it will challenge the top music stars, who are in this artists opinion already smattering the music landscape with derivative content, to elevate their standards and push the boundaries of what it means to be an artist in the 21st century. By providing a benchmark for music standards, AI music might force mainstream popular musicians to strive for originality, authenticity, and emotional resonance with their fans in their music. This heightened emphasis on quality and craftsmanship ultimately benefits listeners, who are treated to a richer and more diverse musical landscape filled with compelling and memorable works.

AI music will empower individuals from all walks of life who do not have the necessary musical knowledge, time or skill that is required to become a musician, to start making music. In this way, generative audio will democratise access to music production, composition, and resources. AI music might enable aspiring content creators to unleash their creativity and share unique voices with the world. For example, a youtuber could use AI music software to create original music for his content which will streamline any chance of having a copyright claim against the content.

Generative audio has the potential to revolution music education by providing accessible and interactive tools for learners of all ages and skill levels. This will be particularly helpful for beginners who do not have the time and money to pay a music teacher. AI will be important in this aspect with interactive tutorials, virtual music lessons, and adaptive practice sessions. Individual practice sessions will be able to be tailored to the individual better learning from their learning style and preference. This makes the learning process more engaging, effective, and inclusive, unlocking the potential for musical expressions in people around the world.

Generative audio has the potential to revolutionize how people with disabilities are able to engage with music. This provides those people with new opportunities and the ability to make music when it was not possible prior. For example, individuals with a physical disability that affect their motor control could use AI powered hands free control systems to interact with generative audio. This enables a chance for these people to start making music for the first time Following, individuals with communication disorders or who are non-verbal could use generative audio to express themselves, enabling new forms of expression and connection.

Generative audio will have a massive impact on people who are not able to make music due to a disability

Although much has been written on the devastating impact generative audio will have on humanity, there are multiple ways that this new technology will have a positive impact. AI music has the transformative potential to revitalize live performances, elevate artistic standards, democratize music production, and revolutionize music education and accessibility for individuals of all abilities.
